David’s Run is a sad and terrible story for a great run. This was the 1st Alley and is steep and not very wide. This unfortunately slid and took the life of David Conway a couple of years ago. The chances of an avalanche in this very well travelled slope is incredibly minute and the conditions aligned in just such a way on this terrible day. A-Basin has some of the best ski patrollers in the business and they did, and do, the best avalanche control work anywhere. Unfortunately, things do happen in our sport, and on one terrible day this trail took a life with a slide that went all the way to the rocks which was at least 8 feet deep. There was no way anyone would know that this would happen and it’s very sad that an in bounds avalanche would take a life. But I guess the dangers of our sport are what adds to the excitement. Would I say that this trail would ever slide? No. There are a lot more trails at A-Basin that I would say would be the first to slide. So you never know. Will I ski this trail again; of course. I have many times since. But know this, snow science is a risky business and I have 100% confidence in the ski patrol, before, now and forever....
